It’s been a while since I got the replacement Apple Vision Pro, and it has been going fine. Of course, most of what I use now is to watch stuff on it since it gives the best viewing experience for Anime. I haven’t used the projector for months, which, of course, uses more energy. While I haven’t done a video on it yet, I plan to get to it since I’m busy. My Vision Pro got that dreaded “CrackGate” crack last month.
This crack, dubbed “CrackGate,” causes a small or even a whole, perfectly straight line on the front glass. Nobody knows what caused the issue, but I think it is due to a bad batch of glass made for the launch models. After all, it only happens to people who got the earlier batch of Vision Pros and not the other batches.
I thought I could get a same-day exchange as this issue is known. Others manage to replace it with a new one from the store, so why not? I eventually showed up to the appointment hours after I saw that straight-line crack. They told me that I had to send it in while they covered it under warranty.
That is disappointing, but I called Apple and explained the cracking issue. They did ask some questions about how it’s stored, whether or not it’s dropped or used outside, the use of hand sanitizer, and if it’s plugged in all the time. After giving some photos and videos showing the straight-line crack, I received a box on Tuesday, dropped it off, and got the replacement on Friday. The turnaround is fast, but hopefully, this unit will be problem-free. At least I’m happy it turned out well, although it’s a slight inconvenience.
Hopefully, some new and exciting things will be in store for this headset. I haven’t tried VR gaming or used it besides watching Anime, primarily because of the lack of Japanese input support. It makes it not as an iPad Pro, but I do plan to have a new version of Shukofukurou for iOS with native support for the Vision Pro. It’s taking a while to get it done as there are a few minor bugs, and I need to take screenshots, but it should come out by the end of June. Also, I plan to have my impressions out eventually. I probably need to take some videos of me using the device.
